Taking Digital Wedding Photos - Some Handy Tips

The bride and groom are usually so busy on their wedding day that without photos to remind them, many of the day’s events would be forgotten; professional digital wedding photographers are usually hired to ensure that memories of the day stay captured and ready to be looked at whenever the couple wants too. Many couples have DVD's made of their day, which are great for some special moments but you can't beat a traditional photo.

Fortunately for wedding photographers they can use an assistant to help them get the right shots but if you're a friend taking pictures, then how do you take good shots of the day? Here are some tips if you find yourself at a friend or relations wedding and are looking to take a digital wedding photo.

Many amateur photographers make the mistake of taking pictures with a boring background which is not something you want in a wedding photo. Don't worry too much if you can't get a full body shot of the couple as you can get around this problem by taking a portrait shot of them which will solve the problem.

If some of the guests are wearing glasses, they can be asked to stand with their heads a little down or sideways to avoid the glare effect from spectacles that normally appears when a flash is used. If there's a couple or a group that you wish to include in the picture, you should use the zoom function in to get the ideal image but do not shoot against the light so that dark images appear.

Where possible, try to capture shots that are natural and candid as these always look so natural when viewed later; one way to do this is to use the cameras optical zoom. You should be alert at all times when shooting digital wedding photos since you can seldom ask people to keep posing for you and the day is also about spontaneity.

Digital cameras rely on two things, memory and power and the last thing you want when you take your shots is to run out of memory or for the batteries to die on you. As a general rule, if your camera is a 6 mega pixel resolution then you will need a large storage capacity card that will hold a few hundred shots at high resolution so a 1 gigabyte card should be sufficient.

The reason you need to set the cameras resolution to the maximum is because the colors will be richer and if you want to enlarge the photos, it won't be a problem. To ensure your pictures are safe and ready to print, save them as soon as possible to your computer's hard drive and create a CD you can present to the couple.

If you are used to regular film photography you may find the change to taking digital wedding pictures a little strange at first but persist and you may find you enjoy it more.
