All About Weddings
When two people get married whether in a civil ceremony or religious one, it is called a wedding; the attitude of western populations towards marriage has undergone many changes recently. The ceremony is an opportunity to perform a traditional service and celebrate with friends and family. the law requires that the couple sign the marriage certificate in front of witnesses before the marriage can be legally accepted. A woman taking part in the ceremony is called a bride, a man called a bridegroom; the terms husband and wife are then the traditional terms to use after the ceremony. Religious Wedding Services Other wedding traditions vary according to the religion, race, ethnic group and even class the couple may belong too. Many people, whether religious or not, still prefer to have a traditional ceremony performed by a recognized religious minister in a Church of their choice. The traditional white wedding as we know it is really only a service that is popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and some other Commonwealth countries. Twin Ceremonies A rare type of marriage is where two separate couples decide to marry at the same time; this often happens where a person has a brother or sister that decides to tie the knot at the same time and it is not unheard of for two brothers to marry two sisters this way. Destination Wedding Ceremonies A destination wedding is where the engaged couple and often guests travel to attend the ceremony; it doesn't matter exactly where you travel to, whether it is in Egypt or just to Las Vegas it will still be considered a destination wedding. Activity Weddings Whilst it is quite normal for the Irish to have three day weddings, more couples are taking the hint and having theirs over a weekend which gives them more time to enjoy the occasion. Other occasions come under the term of either themed or special activity which usually takes place over a weekend period. Usually the accommodation for the guests is part of the package and often includes a Sunday lunch or something similar. Online Weddings Although it has not really caught on yet, a few bold and different people have decided to tie the knot online but it may be sometime before this style of wedding really becomes more popular; there are even guides for information on how to go about an internet ceremony with information on people that can carry it out for you. Marriages that are broadcast live online are also referred to as online weddings. City Hall Marriages A civil wedding is a ceremony presided over by a local civil authority, such as an elected or appointed judge, justice of the peace or the mayor of a locality. Although it may sound clinical, civil ceremonies usually make no reference to God. Often, this type of service will take place in a judge's chambers, town or city hall or any other specially designated place. The weddings discussed here are primarily based around Christian beliefs but each religion and culture has their own traditions in this area.
